How To Transition Summer Dresses into Fall

You know I like to get the most out of my wardrobe. So when it comes time for a season change, I’m always brainstorming ways to make a previous staple work for the new temperature. Summer dresses are no exception. To transition a summer dress into fall doesn’t mean you just have to pack it away. There are plenty of ways to transition summer dresses to make them work for the cooler temps.

Transition Summer Dresses for the Fall:

Yellow Floral:

This shade of yellow was having a moment in the summer, and that looks to be extending into the fall and winter months. While it is a really fun color, it isn’t always flattering on most people’s skin tones. So, be sure when transitioning a dress like this, you keep a color that is flattering near your face. For me, that means a denim jacket, a hunter green jacket with brown booties or even a black draping jacket with black booties.

Blue floral:

This dress was another Target find. And one of my favorite dresses to throw on during the summer month. It is light weight and was simple to wear when the temps were in the 90s. Now, I’ve been pairing it with a classic denim jacket. Afterall, what can’t be worn with denim? As well as a longer white cardigan, a winter white moto jacekt or a hunter green jacket.

Denim Overall Dress:

True confessions, I liked the idea of this overall dress more than I liked the reality. So, I didn’t end up wearing it much in the summer months. But before I packed it away or gave it away, I wanted to find a way to wear it in the fall months. The two easiest ideas that came to mind was pairing it with an oversized chunky cardigan and a leather jacket. I could see either look working at a pumpkin patch this October, although the leather jacket would need different shoes to make it pumpkin patch appropriate.

Leopard Print Shirt Dress:

This dress got it’s fair share of wear during the summer months. I’m a fan of leopard print and I’m a fan of shirt dresses, so this one was a no-brainer for me. I’m not thrilled about packing it away for the next 6 months, so transitioning it to fall wear is essential. The easiest way to do that is to pair it with a jacket and booties while the weather is chilly but not frigid.
