5 Throwback Trends to Try This Spring

In case you somehow missed it, this Spring fashion trends are taking a trip down memory lane. We’re seeing trends that used to be popular in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s making a serious comeback - with slight upgrades, of course. In case your nostalgic for the old days, or too young to remember these looks the first time around, below are my favorites throwback trends of the season, as well as links to my favorite pieces from each trend that you can snag this week in the ShopBop sale.

5 Throwback Trends to Try This Spring:

One:: 80’s Neon

Yes, it is back and more vibrant than ever. I’m talking neon accessories in the form of bold earrings and bucket bags. And neon shoes in the laidback sneaker style and the classy 4-inch pump. And skirts, dresses, t-shirts. Personally, these are difficult colors for me to pull off with my skintone, so I’ll be staying away from the neon clothing and opting instead for neon accessories instead!

Two:: 80’s Midi Patterned Dress

I see this style and I am immediately seeing flashbacks of my mom at my birthday parties as a child. Yes, the patterns are a little more subtle than the 80’s and the sleeves aren’t as poofy. But the general structure is still there.

Three: 80’s Fanny Packs

This might be my favorite trend of the moment because these dang things are so darn practical. I haven’t worn one since that time I went to Disney World with my aunt as an 8-year old child, but these make it so much easier to do everything. I worn mine to the Dan + Shay concert last weekend. Never had to worry about my things and didn’t have to lug a purse around all night. I’ve worn it to so many events and will be donning it all summer long for sure. Wear it around your hips or across your chest.

Four:: 90’s Overalls

Yes, these are cyclical and they certainly come in and out of style. But the overall is having a major moment again - a lot like it did in the 90’s. I’m talking overall shorts, pants, dresses. People are styling them with one side unclipped, and all sorts of different ways. My first pair of overalls were from the 90’s and this season I’ll own my second pair. (at least since I started dressing myself.)

Five:: 70’s Prairie Dresses

And last, but not least, the festival-ready prairie dress from the original festival days, is also seeing it’s moment in the spotlight - again. This time the materials and shapes are a little different, but the vibe is still the same - easy, breezy, hippie chic. Personally, this trend is a little tricky for me to pull off, so I’ll be opting for the skirted-version or a dress that is a little more fitted.
