About Me
I’m a full-time freelance writer. While a large part of my work centers around business reporting I’ve secretly been in love with the fashion industry for years. The love has grown to something I would love to write about full time. I now write for a variety of online publications and blogs offering fashion tips and practical advice for women of all ages.
I also work as a local fashion consultant for women and teenage girls. The best part is finding out what the person’s style is and then finding clothes that work perfectly for them, regardless of my own preferences.
This blog chronicles my daily outfits while offering tips for those looking to work what they have in their closets. It’s about being practical; because while we’d all like an endless bank account and rooms full of clothes that’s just not realistic. ModlyChic is about working with what you have while remaining current and chic.
Plus, ModlyChic is about dressing with dignity. So many of the fashion blogs out there are great and inspiring but you need to look past lots of bare legs, extreme amounts of cleavage, and clothing that is too small on the person. This is a portal for those who want to be fashion forward but don’t feel comfortable showing off their ‘assets’.
I’ll be honest, dressing well and being fashion-minded is something you can learn. When I was in high school I didn’t care about fashion and pictures from the time prove that. In college I lived in jeans and sweatshirts and didn’t care that I was gaining a couple pounds every year. Then suddenly I was a working professional in New York City and I needed professional clothes – GULP!
It was the struggle to find clothing that worked with my body type and still looked young and professional that got me interested in fashion. Two years in New York, soaking it all in, really helped. When I moved back to the Midwest, a place not exactly known for its fashion-forward approach, I told myself I’d dress in a way that would show off my personality and sense of personal style. There is a big difference between the person I was 6 years, or even 2 years ago, and the person I am today.

Hello!
Hope you’re doing well! Did Friday’s note make it over to you? I’d really love to connect soon. You have an incredible presence in Boston, and i think there’s a huge opportunity for us to work together. If you have a second to chat later this week please let me know!
Best,
-Nick
I really appreciate what you are doing, and your last paragraph really rings true for me. I live in Wisconsin, not exactly super fashion forward, and my job really limits what I can wear, so finding clothes that 1. I can wear to work 2. make me feel comfortable and 3. aren’t crazy expensive is somewhat of an adventure. I found your blog via IFB regarding budgeting, but am staying because of your advice.
I am really glad that the person you are today, is not the same person you were 6 years ago. It sounds like you are really at a good palce in life, and it really shows through your blogs. I see you personality through your posts and I rememebr reading another posts that you had written, and agree that I would like to think that the person I read about is the same person I see in real life. I am so glad I came across your site. It’s like the one stop-all. so informative, and so fun to read!

I really appreciate what you said! It all makes sense. Fashion should be fun, even practical fashion! We have to live and work in our clothes, don’t we!! Not even sure how I stumbled onto your blog at this point, but thanks!

Hello Katy,
I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to thank you for the giveaway I didn’t even know I won until I was contacted by INPINK with a $30 credit which I have already purchased the bracelet I was liking I think when I entered your giveaway http://www.inpink.com/bracelets/gold-and-clear-box-pattern-stretch-bracelet.html. I don’t know if you ever sent me an email that I won but I don’t recall receiving it, so if you did I’m sorry if I didn’t reply sooner. Anyway, I sincerely thank you and appreciate you picking me and love your blog.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
