4 Fashion Tips For Your Office Christmas Party

Hello December! Now we are in the heart of party season! And that means the work holiday party is quickly approaching. Let’s be honest, trying to navigate the Christmas party attire can be tricky. What do I wear? How dressed up should I be?

Consider these four tips for your office Christmas party this year:

Keep It Classy

Celebrating the Holiday season with your co-workers, boss, upper management, etc… calls for a classy look. You want to come across as festive but also refined. (Unless it’s a tacky Christmas sweater party in which case the gaudier the better.) Try and wear something that’s classically chic and not revealing. For example, you could go with a standard little black dress or even a winterized maxi dress. (Some of the maxi dresses from Lotus Boutique are a great option.)

Skip the High Heels

As much as you might love your stilettos, it’s probably a good idea to leave them in your wardrobe for an office Christmas party. If you are going to be standing for a long period of time to mix and mingle with co-workers, it is easier to do that in flats. Plus with the icy and snowy conditions you might be battling, flats make is less likely for a parking lot mishap or the awkward penguin waddle to get safely to your car at the end of the night.

Add A Touch of Christmas

Since it is a Christmas party, you might as well be a little festive. You can do this in a variety of ways: wear a Christmas-themed necklace, opt for Christmas light earrings, slip on a reindeer headband or a Santa hat, or go with red/green accents to your look. Alternatively, you could just dress in festive colors like reds and greens.

Ask What Everyone Else Is Wearing

The best way to be dressed right for the event, especially if you are new to the company, is to ask around and see what everyone else is wearing. This prevents you from showing up either under-dressed or overdressed to the company shindig. You’d hate to show in your cocktail dress when everyone else is in jeans and a tacky Christmas sweater. Or you’d hate to be that person in jeans when everyone else is dressed in their finest. When in doubt, dress a little nicer than you think the party calls for. It’s always better to be overdressed than under-dressed.
