True, Chicago is experiencing a glorious bout of hot weather but before we know it fall will really be here and it will time to pack away all the fun summer pieces in favor of cold-weather gear. Now’s the time to asses your wardrobe and pick a few accessories to update so your look is fresh and on-trend for the season.
4 Fall Accessories to Update Now:
Hats – For the last several years we’ve seen the hat trend grow in popularity and last through several cycles. Not just the knit caps that are good for playing in the snow and skiing, but also the fashionable ones that add a bit of personality and pizazz to your look. For me personally, I’m loving this black hat from Brooklyn Hat Company. And I may be a little biased, but this company makes some pretty awesome hats. They’ve supplied me with a new winter hat every fall for the last three years. You can check out the gray rancher-style hat I wore last fall and the cranberry floppy hat I wore in 2015.
Tights – No fall and winter wardrobe is complete with several pairs of awesome tights. If you’re anything like me and love wearing skirts and dresses year round, you know how crucial tights are for keeping warm during the cold months. When shopping for tights, I look for thick tights that have a lot of stretch to them. I like the opaque look best, because it doesn’t look wonky in the knees of back of the calves when it stretches over that area. Lately, I’ve been all about the black tights, but there are so many colors and patterns out there, that your possibilities are endless when it comes to this accessory.
Booties – I love fall and winter for the boots and booties the seasons necessitate. Last year, I’ve found myself gravitating more toward booties than full-length boots, and I think that will be the case this year. A good pair of booties that work with pants and skirts, is always a good investment. I’ve found the wedge style bootie is also the most sturdy heel for battling the ice and snow. A high heel can cause all kinds of trouble when the weather drops and the parking lots ice over – just saying.
Scarves – Nothing screams comfort as much as a warm and cozy blanket scarf. They come in so many patterns and color combinations, including the traditional plaid that everyone seems to own. In the fall and winter months I skip necklaces in favor of scarves almost every day. It just makes me feel cozy and comfortable, especially when the snow begins gathering. At the start of the season I go through my collection, purge anything that is beginning to look worn or old, and then update with a few selective pieces that will coordinate with a number of things already in my closet.
