Since I’ve been doing a lot more micro-blogging via Instagram, due to time constraints etc… I’m starting a new series of posts at the start of each month to recap my favorite items, outfits, and posts from the previous month. If you’ve seen the Instagram posts, this might not be too new to you. If you haven’t – enjoy. My 10 April faves, in no particular order.
ONE:: New Haircut
Thanks to Amanda Price at Spoke & Weal Chicago, I chopped about 5 inches off my hair and added lots of layers. It was awesome to work with her on the cut and style. I told her what I liked and what I didn’t like. She asked a bunch of questions too. And then she gave me a great cut, that kept a lot of the length but made my hair look healthier and made my curls really pop.
TWO:: Lavender Purse
This beauty from myWalit, is my new favorite go-to for the Spring months. The lavender shade is from their new Spring/Summer 2017 line, and fits right into the bold and colorful designs the company is known for. Plus, it’s the perfect size for running errands or shopping, when you don’t want to lug around the oversized tote.
THREE:: Matte Lipsticks Everywhere
April was the month of matte lipsticks. Three have stood out in my book this month. First the Julep It’s Whipped line, which includes those two gorgeous shades above. I’ve worn them both frequently this month, because they are perfect everyday shades. And they feel amazing on. Thanks to Octoloy I got to give these babies a whirl.
Secondly, this really fun Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick, which I got as part of a Lancome Influenster box. The concept of this one is fun. There is no applicator wand like every other matte lipstick I’ve come across. Instead this one is a sponge. You shake the closed bottle, unscrew the top and swipe the sponge across your lips. Easy. Simple. And this color is really fun for the Spring months.
And third, but not least, this three-lipstick collection, which can be worn individually or together to add more depth to a look. The dark purple is a bit much for me, although I could see it being perfect for a fun night out. I’ve been wearing the light pink color alone. And the two lighter shades together, with the lighter color as an accent in the middle of the lips to create an ombre look.
FOUR:: Camo Dress
Yes, I did a whole blog post on the versatility of this dress, but it deserves a second mention because this dress is so awesome. It’s comfortable. The elbow-length sleeves are perfect for the Spring weather and can be rolled up when the temperatures climb.
FIVE:: New Nail Polish Shades
The Spring season means new nail polish colors and a new chance to experiment. This OPI red shade, called Berry On Forever, is the perfect blue-tinted red. To me it is hard to find a really good looking shade of red, since so many of them are yellow tinted and tend to look a little orange when painted on. But this one is the perfect classic red – an easy shade to wear daily. (Thanks again Octoly for that sample.)
SIX:: Vital Proteins
On my liquid diet, I’ve been worried that I’m not getting enough protein in my system. Without the ability to chew meat and not relishing food choices full of dairy, I’ve been relying on the Vital Proteins powders to get me through the day and get me the protein and collagen I need to stay healthy. For the last month I’ve been mixing a scoop of this into my morning smoothies, which have helped me feel full and have given me the strength I need to keep moving through the day. Without it, I’m usually a zombie by noon. This has had me feeling so much better that I was actually able to go to the gym four times last week – which is a record lately. Thanks Vital Proteins for the samples, you’ll literally saved my life during this liquid diet drama.
SEVEN:: Summer Hiking Gear
Who says hiking gear can’t be fashionable and functional? I’m loving these pieces from MyTagAlongs. The palm tree backpack will be perfect for long hikes through the woods this summer. The karma water bottle keeps liquids hot or cold for up to 12 hours. And the wander bag will be perfect for storing my money and phone while out and about. Now I’m all set for the next all-day trip to Starved Rock. Thanks MyTagAlongs for the trial items. Can’t wait to rock them on the trails.
EIGHT:: Floral Pants
These pants you’ll probably see again and again, but that’s because they are my favorite. I’m actually wearing them with a chambray top as I type up this blog post. They are comfortable and chic looking – two of my favorite combinations when it comes to clothing. The pants were a purchase from Express two years ago, and I’m still loving them and wearing them whenever possible.
NINE:: Essie’s Newest Collection
The Essie Spring 2017 B’aha Moment collection is all kinds of amazing. I’m a HUGE Essie nail polish fan, so the chance to review the whole collection thanks to PreenMe was something I jumped at. The blue shade is the first I painted on. The baby pink was the second shade I tried, and they are both awesome. I can’t wait to try all of them this Spring and see what color combinations and patterns I can also have fun with.
TEN:: Post of the Month = Why I Dress Up As a High School Teacher
My favorite post and the one that’s gotten a lot of love from you readers was the one I wrote on why I bother to dress up every day as a high school teacher. I know it’s not needed. A lot of teachers come to school in business very casual looks every day, but I’m usually the one in a dress and skirt with a pair of heels and there’s a reason for that. Actually, there are 10 reasons for that.
In case you were wondering, this dress is from the Who What Wear collection at Target. The shoes are the best purchase I’ve ever made from ModCloth, the jacket is from ShopBop, and the purse is compliments of Adora Bag.
That’s my round up of favorites from the month of April. I can’t wait to see what May has in store for me, for the blog and for all of you.
