Can you believe January is almost over? How are all those resolutions going? Have you stuck with it? Have you already dropped them? Have you gone through a rough patch but are ready to try again? This year – to keep me on track with my big goals and plans – I decided that at the end of every month I would do a little assessment of the month to see where I have excelled and where I need to focus my energies in the month ahead. This way too, I can pinpoint problem areas that keep me from hitting my goals. And from there I can take time to refresh my goals and plans to make achieving them possible and probable. So where am I?
Goal One: Get my fitness back on track.
Success! After training for a half marathon last summer, the school year began again and working out became nothing more than a distant memory and a monthly bill that brought guilt and regret. 2017 is going to be different. I’ve made it to the gym 21 times this month! No doubt that number would have been closer to 25, if I hadn’t gotten a 5-day cold bug that knocked me out. I’m already feeling stronger and leaner.
For February I’m using a fitness app to guide my workouts with the hopes of toning and developing subtle muscles. Combine that with several moments of cardio during the week and I think I’m set for another good month.
Goal Two: Focus on healthy eating choices.
This one is hard. I mean beer… and cheese…. and beer. LOL But, I spent January working at building up good eating habits – preparing a healthy breakfast and lunch the night before, drinking more water (at least 90 ounces a day, although 120 is the goal.), etc… So far so good, but now it is time to take it up a notch and refresh my plan.
For February, I’m trying to think through my desserts and snacks to find ways to incorporate more fruit into my diet. An orange after lunch, a Del Monte Fruit Refreshers fruit cup for my mid-morning and even mid-afternoon snack, an apple before my workout, etc… (Psst… the nice thing about the Del Monte fruit cups is that they are easy to travel with. No need to worry about your fruit arriving bruised and battered from being tossed in your bag. Goal Three: Read 2 books each month.
Nailed it! This month I actually read three books and am about to finish the 4th, which will hopefully happen before February kicks off. Stay tuned for a whole other post on how I accomplished this goal and all without ever really having a chance to just curl up with a good book.
