Three times in my life, thus far, I have had the opportunity to spend over a week in Rome. One of the things that always struck me there – beyond the history and amazing beauty everywhere you look – was the difference in how they drink coffee. We Americans guzzle the stuff in mass quantities and most of the time, let’s be honest, it doesn’t taste too good. But Italians, and I’m sure they aren’t the only ones, take time to create perfect cups of espresso or cappuccino to be sipped and enjoyed at some outdoor cafe overlooking some ancient monument or fountain.
Okay, yes, this is a broad sweeping generalization but the coffee thing is legit. Replicating that at home is never an easy task, especially if all you have is a basic coffee maker and a French press. What you need for that perfect cappuccino at home is the De’Longhi Dedica pump espresso machine. No, seriously. I’ve had it a week and I’m in LOVE with this little baby. I’m practically a barista now. (Stay tuned for some of my favorite recipes in a post next week!)
This thin and uber sleek little machine is able to make one or two shot espresso drinks in under a minute. Add the desired about of espresso grounds to the filter holder. Lock it in place. Press either the single or double shot button at the top and watch the machine get to work. Yup. It’s that simple.
Want a little frothy milk with that too? No problem. There is a built in steamer too, which will make the milk of your choice (I’ve tried it with whole milk, half and half, almond milk, and lactose free milk) perfectly frothy to be then poured over your espresso. So delicious. I haven’t mastered creating a design in the froth, but it’s on my to-do list as I continue having fun with this new kitchen appliance.
Want something a little more? De’Longhi has a whole line of coffee and espresso machines – from this little sleek design to a PrimaDonna that’s totally automated and will make you half a dozen different drinks with the push of a few buttons. Awesome, right?!
