What’s in My Beach Bag? 8 Essential Beach Bag Items

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hawaiian Tropic®. The opinions and text are all mine.

Now that the school year is officially over I’m looking forward to all the fun that summer brings with it – including playing the fun aunt and taking my nephew and niece to the beach, heading out of town for several weeks, sunning along the Indiana dunes, frequent visits to Lake Michigan and swimming in as many pools as I can find!

8 Essential Beach Bag Items(1)

While each event requires different things in my beach bag. There are a few things that I always tote along with me – they are essential items no matter the crowd or the beach/pool.

8 Essential Beach Bag Items:

Hydration – I’m always toting along a large water bottle as well as several electrolyte drinks to make sure I’m staying hydrated while out in the sun all day. I’ve noticed that if I neglect this essential item I’ll have a horrible headache by mid-day and be completely non-functional by the end of the day. But if I stay hydrated throughout the day I’m good to go.

Reading Material – Whether it is a great book or the latest fashion magazine, or both, I’m always sure to bring along something to read. It’s great to sit in the sun and soak up the vitamin D, but I like being a little productive with the time too.

Hat – I don’t always wear the hat, but it’s nice to be able to shade my face during the hottest and sunniest part of the afternoon. A large-rimmed floppy hat is perfect for that. Plus this lighter shades make it so my head isn’t too hot with the added layer.

Sunscreen – No one wants the pain of burning! But some sunscreens can be sticky and a little gross to apply. This year I’m going with the Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen option. Let’s be honest, that Hawaiian Tropic® smell is summer in a bottle. Plus, the lotion feels weightless on my skin while also hydrating for up to 12 hours. It doesn’t get better than silky feeling skin while being protected from UVA/UVB rays.

Sunnies – Ok, I might have a slight obsession with sunglasses of all sorts. During the summer months I never walk out the door without a pair on. The same goes for all the time at the beach. I need sunglasses to protect my eyes from all those vibrant rays bouncing off the water. If I’m going in the water, I’ll trade out the expensive sunnies for a basic pair that I won’t be devastated to lose in the waves.

Oversized Towel – This tall girl needs one of those towels that is more blanket than towel. I stay way from the classic beach towels and opt for the oversized option whenever possible. Plus, the extra space is perfect for playing with the nephews or niece without feeling like sand is getting kicked up every time they move.

Snacks – No, I don’t pack the unhealthy bags of chips and candies. Instead I like to go with bags of cashews and almonds. They provide a healthy, protein-filled mid-day snack that I don’t have to worry about melting in the hot sun.

Wireless Bluetooth Speaker – Nothing like having a little music to chill with. I love the beach-ready bluetooth speakers that can easily be connected to my phone, while still keeping that phone out of the direct sunlight so it doesn’t overheat. (Been there, done that. It’s bad news.)

A little more about the Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen… I picked it up at Walmart the last time I was picking up all my essentials. It is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, which is perfect for splashing around with the little ones.
