Every year, whether I am buying a new party outfit or just looking to update last year’s items for a fresh new approach I need to find inspiration outside my wardrobe. While I scroll through a lot of blogs, for seasonal suggestions, the holidays are trickier because often blogger outfit posts aren’t published until after I need the clothing upgrade. And last year’s outfits aren’t the on-trend look I’m aiming for. So… that’s where holiday issues of magazines come in handy – InStyle and People StyleWatch, specifically.
This week I picked up both magazines at Target, where (extra bonus) you get a $5 gift card when purchasing the two magazines together. The deal lasts until December 7th! As soon as I got them home, I began flipping through, flagging pages, making notes in the margins, snapping pics of things to remember while I’m out shopping, etc…
While I’m still not listening to Christmas music, I’m super thrilled for the 2013 Holiday fashion season! The glitter, the sequin, the leather, the glitz and the glam. I’m loving it all. I can’t wait to try decorative hair accessories, gold glitter in my makeup, cardinal red outfits, statement earrings, shimmering nail polish, sequin jackets, and all the other fun trends outlined and showcased in the glossy pages of the magazines.
A few bits of holiday inspiration I’ll be trying this year…
It wouldn’t be the Christmas season without a little red and green mixed into the look. I’m loving these leather pants paired with a statement-making bright sequin jacket. The green cami, clutch and earrings adds a serious seasonal glam to the whole thing. Oh and for the super dressy night-out, this gold sequin patterned skirt is so great with the red silk top. A great pair of booties and coordinating purse helps to make this whole look a serious show-stopper!
Nothing says holiday festivities like a cocktail hour or New Year’s Eve fiesta. This little black dress is so perfect while a little unexpected. The blue jewels are nontraditional for Christmas parties but I love the look when the light blue is pulled into the whole outfit. These blue heels with the ankle straps are so great. I seriously need them. And like the gold skirt above, this gold dress is so perfect paired with red. Thanks to InStyle’s two-page spread on Cardinal Red, I might be all about the gold and red combination this year.
The clothing, of course, isn’t the only essential for a Holiday party. You’ve got to think of the makeup! This season, a with a lot of the Holiday seasons, it is all about the shine and the shimmer. Gold glimmer in the eyeshadow. A little shimmer in the blush. Vibrant red lips. Blush that makes your cheeks glow.
The final step to Holiday glam… The mani/pedi that completes the whole ensemble. This season it is all about heavy metal shimmer. Gold, silver, bronze – of all kinds. And of course you can never go wrong with classic red or even a fun green color.
All this Holiday inspiration comes from InStyle and People StyleWatch.
