Last week I spent a couple days home with my family, taking care of my younger siblings while my mom was out in DC. It was an intense few days of early mornings, breakfast flops (and successes), floor to ceiling cleaning, homework help, dinner prep, grocery shopping and animated movies. My mom was in DC to accompany my Marine brother who was donating his stem cells for a 72-year-old woman who needed them. (What a great Thanksgiving gift he was able to give! I’m so proud of him and the man he’s become.)
My time home was also a true test of my personal mantra that it’s important to dress up whether you are going out that day or not. Day one – this is what I wore. I made oatmeal for breakfast, which my brothers hate, got a mani, went to the new Fashion Outlets of Chicago (which was highly underwhelming), did some grocery shopping, and made a family favorite for dinner. Yup, all of that in heels and these amazing leatherette pants!
Day two – I got dressed up and then changed mid-day when the carpooling and dinner-prep began. By day three I gave in and was in my favorite pair of jeans and one of my brother’s school sweatshirts. Oops. I think I have a little better understanding of why so many soccer moms walk around in yoga pants and over-sized sweaters. There’s a lot to do on a day-to-day basis. Mom’s are amazing, aren’t they?
