Camouflage might possible be my favorite fall trends, or it at least makes the top five list. Maybe it’s all the winters I spent sitting in a tree stand next to my dad waiting for a deer to walk by, but I’m a little gaga over all the different permutations the trend has taken. (I think we can thank the popularity of Duck Dynasty for this!) But wearing this fall trend is not the easiest, especially for the camo-shy. Below are some helpful tips on how to wear the camouflage trend.
Start small. If you are unsure of this trend, or any for that matter, find a small way to incorporate it into your wardrobe. This might be through a scarf, or inexpensive muted vest. Go for subtle and understated as you get started. (Try something like this black and gray Camouflage Infinity Scarf!)
Keep colors to a minimum. Yes, this is a pattern, but is usually a pattern that already contains a number of colors, usually in the green and brown categories. This automatically limits the colors and items it can be paired with. Go black, brown, gray, white or even a burgundy.
Go for understated. Since camouflage is already a pretty bold choice in clothing, try to keep the rest of the look basic.
Pick a coloring that flatters. I’ve seen a lot of camouflage items out there! With so many color combinations make sure to pick one that flatters your skin type and hair color. A very yellow-based camo isn’t going to look good on those who should be wearing clothing in the blue-family.
Add feminine touches. With camouflage traditionally seen as a more masculine item, make sure your outfit contains feminine pieces – earrings, necklace, scarf, heels.
For shirts or jackets opt for fitted. You don’t want to look like you borrowed our dad’s over-sized hunting jacket. Instead go for something that has some shape and definition. The same could be said for pants. (Something like this BCBGeneration Camo Jacket would be perfect!)
