Boston to Milwaukee via the open road

I can’t believe I am saying this but my friend Christine and I actually completed the road trip from Boston to Milwaukee via Niagara Falls, via Cleveland, via Chicago! What an adventure we had!

Saturday we loaded her car with all my things. Thank goodness she had a huge trunk and a nearly empty back seat. I had tightly rolled and stacked nearly all my clothing into the chest I received this past winter for the Jane By Design blogger challenge. (I’m telling you rolling your clothes is the BEST packing method ever. It cuts down on wrinkles and becomes tiny.) I thought the chest would fit in the trunk but it didn’t. So into the back seat it went. Everything else I owned was packed into random sized boxes that were stacked into the trunk Tetris style! The car was loaded down but it got us all the way without breaking down – bonus!!

We traveled all afternoon and evening on Saturday, arriving to Welland Canada around midnight! Bed never looked so good, despite the smoking room we ended up being stuck in. Sunday morning we woke up early, explored the Canada side of the Falls, which are much more picturesque than the American side! So worth the border detour. I had some funny looks and questions from the border patrol on both sides because of the large amount of things in the car – but no major issues.

Sunday afternoon we drove to Cleveland and spent the night there in a clean and cozy Comfort Inn. That night was gorgeous so we walked around the city, explored the Cathedral, and ate an amazing Spanish meal at Mallorca. YUM!!

Monday morning we explored the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – so worth the detour to Cleveland even if the rest of the city seems to have been heavily hit by the economic downturn.

Monday afternoon we continued the trek and arrived in Chicago. The trip included a random highway stop and lunch at a little road-side family owned restaurant. We crashed at my parents house, made my mom take us out to breakfast Tuesday morning. Extra bonus… all my siblings were home (except the Marine) and I got to spend time with my little nephew!

At noon we continued on to Milwaukee, unloaded my things and started unpacking. Tired yet? I’m still exhausted.
