How do you rest on vacation?

by katyrose on August 14, 2012

Now I’m on a vacation and taking advantage of the time away from life as I know it so re-energize before the big move. I know some people find rest and relaxation in doing nothing. But I’m not one of those people. I think the best rest, for everyone, comes when you switch to mental pursuits that are out of your usual day-to-day lives. Or at least if you get to focus in on different ones. As a result, I’m working on growing myself and expanding my knowledge base while resting. (It doesn’t hurt that I get to look at these views all day, every day!)

I’m taking two short classes one on the philosophy of law, the other on the philosophy of freedom. They are both great, but they certainly force me to use a whole lot of grey matter that hasn’t been truly tapped in months.

I’m reading! I read the latest book by Irene Hannon, a suspense author. It is the third book in a series and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now I’m reading The Art of Racing in the Rain. It’s written by Garth Stein and while I find it crass at times, I’m enjoying the book immensely. It is written from the perspective of the family dog as he watches the events of life unfold around him. It is creative and witty and seems to be really getting at some great life messages. I’m curious to see how it ends.

I started writing again. Now that my second book is published and selling fairly well online (thank you to everyone who purchased it.), I’m beginning the second book in that series and also playing around with a new book concept that dawned on me the other day. At the moment I have book documents/books open simultaneously and I am switching working on one and then the others; although I think in the days ahead I will need to pick one and focus on it if I am going to get an actual work done.

I’m also spending time running and biking and chilling at the beach!

I take a Tylenol PM.

Kidding. Mostly.

I really enjoy reading, and particularly enjoy it when it’s being done at the beach, poolside, or in a hot tub accompanied by a glass of wine. Reading is my go to thing to do on vacation or just when I need to relax. I love getting lost in a good book :)

Other than that, I like finding local places to eat at when on vacation, or local shops to check out. Something I don’t have at home is always more special to me.

I can’t sit around all day, even on vacation! When I’m in a new place, I like to spend my morning/midday walking around and sightseeing and eating. In the afternoon I’ll read or work out or both, then do some relaxing with a cocktail, then dinner and usually early to bed. If I’m somewhere where there’s a kitchen, I like to cook/bake :) Excited for your move!
