30 for 30 – Moving edition

by katyrose on August 1, 2012

Well, I am all packed and ready to go! I can’t believe I am saying that but it’s true. I finished packing on Monday and now I am living amidst boxes and a couple suitcases. My moving situation is a little funny. I need to be all packed up and out of my room here by August 4th but I’m not leaving New England until the 28th. For the three weeks in between I will be taking a little vacation near the Cape, after which I will spend two days training my replacement and then four days roadtripping with some friends out to the Midwest.

Packing for all of these moments was becoming a little stressful. So I figured my best bet was to pick items that would easily mix and match and live with a small amount of clothing for the next month. That decision made me remember the good ole days of Kendi’s 30 for 30 Challenges. I think I completed three of them before she stopped hosting the event on such a huge scale. I’m going to do my own 30 for 30 and survive the next month on these items. It will make packing and traveling a heck of a lot easier and it will force me to get a little more creative. I picked out some colors and patterns instead of opting for the always easy black options.

If you aren’t familiar with the 30 for 30 concept, here it is in a nutshell: Pick 30 items. (includes shoes, does not include accessories) Create 30 unique outfits using only those 30 pieces. It’s pretty basic but the idea is meant to help us work with what we have in our closets and see outfits that we might not have ever considered before. (These are the items I used for the 2011 Fall 30 for 30 and the ones I used to 2010 Fall 30 for 30. My first challenge was Summer 2010.)

To be honest I don’t think I’ll post every single outfit as its own post. I might pair a couple together or show the different ways I wore a specific skirt, but either way it will be a fun break from the norm for me.

Here are the 30 items I’ll be surviving on during the month of August:

Whew! Packing does put things in perspective, doesn’t it? I need to do this challenge- my closets are busting out!

I’ve been thinking about doing another 30 for 30 myself. The last time I tried it, I failed miserably. The weather was unseasonably cold and I’d chosen only 1 pair of pants (jeans no less). The rest were skirts and dresses, because I wanted to wear them more… but it was too cold to! But I think now I could manage it. Hmmm…

I’ve kind of missed the 30 for 30 except I think I rewear the same 10 things now. I just pair things up the same way. It’s harder to get creative with shorts and a tank.
