Today is the day! My second Young Adult ebook, The Emerald Isle, launches today and is available for purchase on Amazon, Smashwords and (soon) Barnes & Noble. You can check it out on GoodReads too. When I wrote my first book, Aurora Undefined, I had NO idea what the heck I was doing as I jumped into indie publishing totally blind. Now, I’m a little more knowledgeable but still feeling just as blind. It’s all a big guessing game – will people fall in love with the characters as I did when writing them? Will anyone want to read the book?
As part of the release my alter-author-ego is hosting a book blog tour from now until August 31st in which the book will be reviewed and guest posts will be published by a number of amazing book bloggers. The first stop on the tour is ModlyChic for a beach-themed giveaway.
The book is part paranormal part contemporary fiction. Here’s a summary: To escape a bad break-up and fighting parents Audyn takes a job as a lifeguard at Fascination Island. The posh five-star resort lives up to its name in every way, including the strange rules the owner has about entering the water at night. Despite declaring it a boy-free summer, it isn’t long before the shy, endearing Levi and the mysterious, tattooed Tristan begin vying for her attention. When Levi tries to push his advantage and Tristan comes to the rescue, Audyn realizes there is more to both these boys and the island they inhabit. Suddenly, she’s forced to acknowledge a reality she’d never considered and to pick a side in the conflict that has been waging for decades.
To celebrate I pulled together a giveaway, with each item somehow revolving around The Emerald Isle. The giveaway runs from July 16th until the 31st and is open to US residents only. One lucky winner will walk away with a prize pack worth more than $150:
- A $50 giftcard to Shabby Apple (spend it on a bathing suit or a dress.)
- A $25 giftcard to Amazon
- A great pair of sunglasses from MimiBoutique
- A bag of your choice from BambooBlue
- A collection of YA books to read on the beach.

As for your giveaway question, my favorite YA book is probably The Magic Christmas from the Sweet Valley Twins series (maybe that’s more tween than YA). I read it almost every year. Feel free to side-eye my taste level. It’s fine.

My favorite YA book has to be The Hunger Games. Probably cliche, but it’s just so good! I’ve been really wanting to read the Divergent series, but there is a huge wait list at the library!

I loved the Babysitters Club books when I was younger… though I was a pretty advanced reader and read them sooner than most of my friends. I think a good book to read is Judy Blume’s “Forever”. It’s a bit advanced as far as the theme goes (it deals with sex, love, and getting your heart broken), but I read it quite often, even up through college… it was really easy to relate to, especially as my relationships changed and I “grew up”.

Boy, so many YA books I loved as a kid (and probably still do)…I’d probably have to go with the Dragons series by Patricia Wrede. Especially the first two, Dealing with Dragons and Searching for Dragons. But then again, there’s Lloyd Alexander’s books about Vesper Holly…
