Well, now that Memorial Day is official come and gone we can all now breath a sigh of relief and wear white without worrying about some age-old mantra about no white before that day. Plus as the summer heats up, white becomes a much more viable outfit option. I, personally, am on the hunt for a great pair of white pants. But until that time I will be opting for the two white(ish) dresses I own and bringing in more lighter-colored options into my wardrobe.
This Converse dress from Target is white with a subtle gray-colored paisley pattern. I’m never quiet sure how to wear the dress so it tends to sit in the back of my closet waiting for the moment when I am up for experimenting with it again. This time I went with the gray cami underneath and a red sweater over – sticking with the classic color combination of white and red. For a little more zing I added the yellow accents and the leopard print purse. It’s a lot of pattern and breaks the three-color rule I’ve seen mentioned by some stylists, but I liked the overall look and feel of this outfit.

Aww… thanks! I’m still up in the air about the dress, but it is certainly comfortable. At times it just seems to fit funky.
I am not a big fan of all white outfits, but I do try to include more lighter colors to my outfits as well. White bottoms do tend to accentuate my pear-shaped body in a bad light though, therefore I stick to the lighter tops and colored bottoms. With pale skin like I got, I think white is a difficult color as well. I try to work with nudes and pastels rather than the real white. Loving your dress! It really flatters your figure!

Anja, I agree with you about the white pants. I want a pair but need to find one that flatters instead of accentuates the bottom half. I’m sure there is a pair out there waiting for me. I just need to be patient and find it.
Anja and Katy Rose – I’m slightly pear shaped myself and carry some extra weight, but I still love wearing my white jeans! It’s about finding a pair in a sturdy material with a tiny bit of stretch to “suck you in” a bit, and pocket placement is also important. The most flattering cut would be straight leg or bootcut. Good luck on finding that perfect pair of white jeans!

We don’t celebrate Memorial Day in Norway, which means I can wear white whenever I want without breaking any rules:) That said, I wear white mostly in summer and I’ll wear cream and not bright white close to my face unless I have a suntan. You look lovely in that dress!

That’s a lovely print on that dress. I don’t really get the rules about white in the States – but I guess white is associated more with summer. I’ve used an old post on my favourite summer whites outfit ever which I pull out every year to go on summer holidays. Packing it now as I am off on holiday tomorrow!

I wore white sailor pants from the army surplus back in the 70s, sporting that high waisted/bell bottomed silhouette that was so popular… Giant white army surplus shorts via Reminiscence in the 80s… and was wearing some white pants (verboten, in January) when I met my boyfriend at a club on Melrose in 1997. That was the last time I wore white pants. No desire to wear them now. “Big bottom” is OK in music, not so good in white pants.
