After competing in the ABC Family Jane By Design style challenge, I realized for the millionth time that fashion inspiration can be found everywhere. One of my favorite challenges from the experience was trying to recreate one of the character’s looks. Taking a look and then perusing Polyvore, to give the look my personal touch, was such a fun experiment in creativity and inspiration. To be honest, I’m tempted to make this a usual part of ModlyChic – grabbing inspiration from a TV show, movie, or blogger and trying to recreate it with my own flare. So fun.
For people who like to stay up-to-date on fashion trends, there is no such thing as too much exposure. Fashion is everywhere – in magazines, on television, on advertisements, etc. – and people who are involved in this world tend to keep their eyes open, looking for good places to keep up with the newest trends. Increasingly, television has become a great place to do just this. Not only are fashion examples and advertisements all over television, but these days there are even a number of shows designed specifically toward demonstrating and practicing fashion trends, and in many cases setting them.
Here are a few examples:
• The Rachel Zoe Project is a reality drama series for those who want a glimpse at the very highest end of fashion. Rachel Zoe is a well-respected celebrity stylist and fashion consultant and in this show we get a real glimpse at just what such a job entails. Rachel Zoe faces constant challenges and deadlines and exemplifies professionalism and a strong sense of fashion throughout them all.
• Project Runway is another popular fashion-oriented show and is all about the clothing creation process. Renowned model Heidi Klum hosts the show, during which contestants compete with each other to make clothes under the pressure of deadlines and restricted materials, etc. The show is entertaining from a competitive standpoint and also shows audiences the process that aspiring designers go through to create their clothes.
• Or what about award shows? Perfect for inspiration and for glimpses of high-end fashion. Shows like the Oscars and this weekend’s Golden Globes, and the Grammys are known for being events at which celebrities make an effort to show off inventive and new looks. It is always interesting for fans to see what they come up with. (Did you see Angelina Jolie’s dress? I’m not usually a fan of her style, but I think it was my favorite of the night.)
Whether you’re lightly interested in fashion and the shows above intrigue you from an entertainment standpoint, or you’re a designer always looking for new ideas and techniques, these shows can be very enjoyable and helpful.
