Thrifted Michael Kors!

by katyrose on June 29, 2011

I have to say, this personal dress/skirt with heels challenge is going surprisingly well. Now I wake up in the mornings and only have a moments thought about putting on a pair of pants. Then I shake my head and force myself to think of a dress or skirt combination. To be honest I’m loving it. There is something absolutely wonderful about dressing in this uber-feminine way every day. It’s also making me realize that some dresses and skirts are actually comfortable enough to wear all day long without longing for the moment the dress comes off and comfy clothes go on.

Of course the nice weather helps. It’s easy to dress up when the sun shines in your window each morning inviting you to embrace one more day full of promise. Are you taking advantage of the nice weather to step-up your wardrobe choices? Are you wearing more dresses or skirts? If so, in the comments leave a link to your favorite recent outfit! I’d love to see what you are all working with.

Tip: Think twice about those pants you’re reaching for. Push yourself to think of a dress or skirt combination the next time you want that broken-in pair of jeans.

Dress: Dress Barn
Sweater: Old Navy
Shoes: Michael Kors (from Second Time Around)
Bracelet: Forever21
Earrings: New York & Co.
Necklace: ForLove
Ring: Mimi Boutique

Love that dress! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I also have to push myself outside my comfort zone to wear dresses but always so glad I did. And, you know, you are not going to look back on your live & wish you wore your favourite dress less …

Fab outfit. I love skirts, although I do feel that assuming ‘trousers = masculine and scruffy’ sells them short (and then they DO become the scruffy, lazy option) so I rarely do 1-type-of-clothing challenges. That and I can’t wear heels for a few months due to a back injury. :(

I think skirts and dresses are the best professional summer wear!! So much cooler and easier to style than pants. This dress looks incredible on you and its such a pretty color!!

Wow, that dress looks AMAZING on you! I love it. You got it at Dress Barn? I never find anything cute there (granted, I’ve only been there once or twice – the name is so unfortunate. Dress BARN?? Really? Why not Dress Emporium, or Dress Boutique?)

Love this dress and heels and combo – the dress is just so pretty! The weather in my neck of the woods has been pretty erratic lately (rain, shine, etc.) so I’m sort of still in my spring transitioning to summer wardrobe…

I already told you via Twitter, but I love today’s outfit– the subtle pattern on the dress, the cheerful stripes on the cardigan, THOSE SHOES! xo

That dress is absolutely stunning on you! I agree with you that dresses are not only very girly, but very comfortable as well. They’re also very easy (don’t have to think about pant + blouse combo), just one article of clothing to put on and, viola! you’re done :)

I totally know what you mean: it is a fun challenge to put on a skirt/dress. When I think easy so often I go for my go to bottoms of the summer (tailored Bermuda shorts) but skirts can be just as easy!

This dress looks amazing on you! I love the vintage flair to it and the way you paired it. I love yellow and coral together. I think it’s awesome you are stepping outside the box and wearing more skirts. I love skirts and wear them much more frequently than pants, so wearing pants would be the challenge for me. Actually, I have been wearing more shorts, which is something I haven’t done since I was a kid. It’s exciting pushing yourself to do something new, more often.

This dress is seriously awesome. The color looks great on you! I love wearing floaty skirts in the summer. The way they move when you walk is almost like having a built in fan for your legs.

I’ve got two go-to skirts for summer.

Oh my goodness…I’m the complete opposite, I have to push myself to wear pants! I rarely do anymore, I stick with mostly dresses and sometimes skirts, but hardly ever wear pants.

That dress is lovely on you! The shape, the color, everything and I especially love it with the yellow cardigan! You look beautiful!

I love that dress so much! It’s such a pretty color and silhouette on you and the added striped cardi is really fun. I often go for jeans, but now that the weather is warmer I grab dresses. I do need to dip into my skirts a little more often.

Yeah, this is simply fabulous. There’s something so wonderful about the dress/skirt and heels wardrobe — even though I wear flats (biking in heels is a challenge!), I still feel 100% more ladylike and put-together in a skirt.

This dress is so pretty. I am in love with the color. All the accessories go really well, too (shoes!!)– I can’t decide if you’re looking more J.Crew or Kate Spade!

I really like this dress. The dress looks like something you would buy on ModCloth. I always thought of Dress Barn as this dowdy suburban store, maybe because it was portrayed that way in The Devil Wears Prada. I’ll have to check out my local Dress Barn the next time I go shopping.

I love finding designer things in thrift stores!

Yesterday I went to Value Village (Canadian version of Savers) and found Chanel shoes. I couldn’t believe it.

You make me want to try harder and dress up more!
