This happened to be one of the only outfits I managed to photograph before my camera met an untimely death. The outfit was a little bit of an experiment for me; as it combined animal print with a colored skinny belt and straight skirt. It also fits perfectly with my personal summer challenge: Skirts with a Heel.
I was hesitant about the belt, but in the end it really helped define this outfit and add a more fitted dimension. The t-shirt, by its very nature, is loose fitting, which I love, but with the fitted skirt and black sweater it all needed to be pulled together. The only problem – the belt, when worn high on the waist was way too big to go through the normal holes. Luckily before discarding the belt I remembered watching a sales associate at J. Crew showing a little girl how to twist and knot the belt as shown above. Surprisingly it stays in place like this all day without constant adjustments – which is a bonus in my book!
Tip: Pay attention to the sales associates helping in the fitting rooms. Some of them are clueless but some of them have great suggestions and words of advice to share.

Great outfit. Love how you did the twist and knot with the belt! I can never figure out how to do it. The close up pic helps
Glad it helps. Maybe I should do a little tutorial on it. Although the video would be about 10 seconds long. LOL
Great outfit! I love the belt!! The way you tied is so awesome; I’m going to try to loop my skinny belt like that next time.

I started looping the belts a couple months ago and since then I rarely use them properly. You’ll love looping them and may be an eternal convert.
You and Suze are both rocking some great animal prints today. I think the addition of the belt really pulls the whole look together.

I’m off to check out Suze’s blog now – thanks for the heads up. And I agree the belt really pulls it all together.
I love the skinny belt, especially how you tied it! Very nice

I really like your tip, too…I am always on the look out for good sales associates in stores…they can be sooo helpful!

Some of the sales associates really can be wonderful. Although I’ve seen a number of bad ones who are just trying to make a sale too. Those are the ones to avoid at all costs.
Funny you mention the belt – also got inspired to wear it tied up after seeing a sales girl at Banana Republic doing so… and now, I’ve been tying up my skinny belts ever since!

Hmm… I wonder if they all got training on that. We used to have little videos the associates all needed to watch when I worked at Ann Taylor, so I could see the same there. Pretty smart marketing; afterall it got us talking about them! – Katy
I love this! The animal print is so fun and the skirt and heels make it very profess…oh and the belt looks great, it definitely defines things.

No kidding! Some of them are real gems.
This is a wonderful look! A leopard top, cardi, skinny belt and pencil skirt. A great summer uniform in my opinion! I love how you paired yellow with leopard. Never did that color combo before.

It was a first for me too. I was a little surprised at how well I thought the yellow went with the leopard print.
I love this look, the belt looks really great! I want to try that soon!

That is such a cute and flattering outfit on you! You look great in leopard! I would have never thought about knoting the belt! I have a belt that suffers that same problem so I’m definitely gonna try that!

Go for it. I just bought a silver belt on super sale and purposely bought one bigger than I needed to be able to knot it instead of traditionally belt it.
What a fabulous way to add a little color to your wardrobe!! The belt is a genius idea!
Thanks for the lovely tip!

Great outfit, and I know I’ve said it before but I love your new haircut, you look really cute! I’m warming up to animal prints myself, I’ve always kind of liked them but never had the guts to wear them. So far I have a couple of scarves that I’m wearing frequently, and a bikini top, but I’d like a top or a blouse as well:)

You are 1000% correct about the belt- it really pops and makes the outfit! I love how you looped it around too, I often wonder what to do with the excess and I love this idea.
