Shimmering Scarf and Photography

by katyrose on November 16, 2010

Outfit 8 of 30. The place where I work hosts an annual auction with some pretty amazing items up for grabs. There is a trip to Barbados, a ski weekend in Vermont, a Tiffany bracelet… etc… So my job lately has been to photograph the silent auction items in order to better showcase the things both during the event and before hand online. I took advantage of the setting to take some fun shots and get my outfit pics into the mix too.

This shirt is a challenge, which is why I included it in the 30 for 30 in the first place. It is uber-comfortable but so shapeless it should be a crime. I’m looking forward to re-creating it a couple different ways and finding the best way to wear it. For this look, I think the scarf really helped to tone down the hugeness of the top and create a little dimension.

And these black pants are my go-to work pants. They are comfortable, easy to wear sitting or standing all day. They are pretty flattering and they don’t have a zipper or buttons or even an elastic waist. You just pull them up and are ready to go. Yes, my mom had a pair of similar pants a few years back and I made fun of her for them. But really these are such an easy solution. It’s like walking around in yoga pants but not actually being in yoga pants.

Tip: Listen to your mom. She might actually be on to something.

Love the shirt. I am slightly addicted to shapeless things, which I usually belt (large chest + shapeless= all sorts of wrong) but the scarf definitely adds some shape and visual definition.

I think I have the same NY&Co. pants, they are the best for work! I don't think the shirt is too bad, maybe it's just because I am viewing it with the scarf :)

what a great outfit. it looks effortlessly cool and chic. I am a big fan of H&M scarfs, wearing one myself in outfit n.9 today.

I really like the oversized gray top! You still look super chic and work appropriate. I'm going to have to go and get a pair of those pants once the 30 for 30 is over and I'm allowed to shop again!

I have a few tops like that. One of the ways I like to mix them up is by pairing them w/highwaisted pants or skirts. I tuck the top in and belt it. For me it works great bc it makes my body look longer – since you have a taller frame the pants idea may not go as well but a skirt would probably work nicely. Just a thought about another way to mess w/oversized shirts.

This outfit looks so comfy! I love that scarf, it reminds me of all the ones waiting to be worn I have stashed in my closet. Such a beautiful color.

I must say I love this outfit, including (especially) the drapiness of the top. The combo with those pants and scarf is luxe, comfy and chic.

Love blousey shirts! I like Alli XT's advice on tucking it in, and you can also cut down on the poufiness by belting it or wearing it with a cardigan/jacket/blazer.

I love the scarf!! I love anything sparkly but I love how dressed-up casual this looks. The pop of the scarf really adds great color to the outfit!

I'm loving the massive volume going on here! I think most people would have naturally gravitated to skinny jeans or leggings with that top, but the flowy black pants look fantastic!
