I took a much needed break from blogging this weekend in order to catch up on sleep and kill a nasty headache I was forming. UGH! So I’m back in action on this lovely but chilly Monday and have another great profile! Meet Kimberly. She blogs over at Fab Finds Under $50, which as you can guess is all about finding cheap but great items. She’s been a faithful blogger for nearly 2 years now and has grown quiet the budget-minded following.
Where does the name come from? 98% of every item shown on my blog are under $50! I’ve been a bargain shopper since I was a wee one, and I wanted my readers to know the focus of the blog from the get-go.
When did you start the blog? I started the blog sporadically in January 2008 and smoved to almost daily a couple of months later.
How has your blog changed over the years? The content has stayed pretty consistent with a mix of my daily outfits along with Reader Questions, and posts featuring items that have caught my eye. I would like to think the layout and collage/graphics have improved though.
City you are based out of: Indianapolis, IN
How does your location help or hinder your blog? It doesn’t really do either, but my focus is on frugal fashion and there is a lot of that in the Midwest. There isn’t a ton of pressure to have the latest Jimmy Choos, etc. as there may be in some other cities.
What would you say the mission of your blog is? Just like the tag line says “Real Women, Real Fashion, Real Prices”. I want women to realize that they can look fashionable and put together without wiping out their bank account.
How many hours a week do you spend working on it? In the range of 5-10 hours a week, sometimes more. It’s how I relax at the end of the day.
How has this blog changed your life? I have met so many phenomenal women through blogging. Also, I have been fortunate enough to turn some of those “blogging buddies” into “real life friends”. It has been fantastic being part of such a positive community.
Besides this blog, what do you do professionally? Commercial Real Estate Property Manager
In 5 words or less how would you describe your personal style? Classic, Colorful, Full of Flair
What would you say is the hardest part about blogging? Keeping up on all the emails from readers, fellow bloggers, PR Reps, etc. I feel so bad when I can respond within 24-48 hours.
What is your one golden piece of shopping advice? Don’t buy based on price – buy based on feeling!
What is the most rewarding part? Emails from Readers who say I’ve helped them in some way or they feel more fashionable because of a tip they implemented from my blog – those kinds of emails totally make my day!
If you had to pick one mantra for life, what would yours be? Follow Your Bliss. – Joseph Campbell
What are your favorite items in your closet? My shoes!!
In your opinion, every woman should own: A pair of shoes that makes her feel like a rockstar!
A woman’s most beautiful feature is her: Confidence is key!
Where do you see your blog in 5 years? I can’t believe I have done it for 2 1/2 years already. Seriously, blog years are a lot like dog year – ha! It seems so many bloggers pop up, stick with it for a couple of months and then *poof* they disappear. I do know it would take some pretty life altering event to make me want to stop though. So I might just still be around doing what I do.
What in your wardrobe could you not stand to part with, ever? My scarf collection – I have a great mix of thrifted scarves, scarves handed down from my grandma, designer scarves and more. Plus you can do so much with them and they don’t take up a lot of room.
What would you say to a woman who bemoans the fact that she is not the ‘ideal’ bodyshape? Who is? Be proud of who and what you are!
What are some of your favorite blogs to read? I subscribe to about 300 “fashion blogs” and I enjoy them all in their own way. However, I really enjoy T Minus T Plus (www.tminustplus.blogspot.com) and Bombshell Beauty (www.bombshellbeauty.blogspot.com). I had the opportunity to meet both of these great gals at a blogger conference earlier this summer, and they are truly marvelous women!
Do you have an fool-proof home beauty remedies? Every night I pile my hair on top of my head with a scrunchie (shh, don’t tell!) which gives nice loose waves by morning time.
What is the most innovative fashion statement you’ve rocked? I’m not very innovative since the majority of the time I am getting dressed for my “day job” and need to keep things appropriate. However, I am no stranger to bold colors and patterns!
One trend you would like to never see again is: Wearing multiple pairs of brightly colored socks at once! My feet use to get so HOT back in the 4th & 5th grade (and yes, I am showing my age here!).
For the fall you are coveting: Goodness, so much! I am a complete sucker for fall fashion. I would love a great pair of calf hair leopard heels (like Coach’s Valencia pair) though.
Favorite designer: Being plus size, I have to give a shot out to Michael Kors for offering plus size items. Also, based on the recent NYFW I am loving looks from DKNY, Tracey Reese, Milly and Tory Burch for Spring 2011.
Favorite color to wear: Red
Favorite fashion accessory: Belts – they are so good for my body shape!
Which celebrities style do you envy? I love a lot of what Jessica Biel wears – she makes (her stylist makes) good decision for both casual outfits and red carpet events.

Great profile. I really love the hair tip for creating soft waves. I'll have to try that.
excellent interview and insight into this blog(which I had not heard about). Also, as a new blogger it's always nice to get tips from bloggers who have been doing this for so long.
